Second user testing event at arbyte gallery, 19/20 March

User testing The Realm

We’ve been working hard since the first beta test in February and have an extended prototype to beta test. Hosted by arebyte gallery, we will have a pop up installation set up on 19/20 March. For repeat participants we’re really excited to see what you think of the new developments and for newbies we want to know what you think.

Volunteers needed to beta test a VR prototype in development, aiming to push at the possibilities of immersive interaction.

Inspired by the coordinated motion of animal groups, THE REALM combines visual art and computational design with behavioural science to create aesthetic and immersive collective encounters. Through Virtual Reality technologies, participants interact with imaginary biological creatures, whose individual and collective actions are driven by player interactions, interconnecting to create a dynamic co-evolving system, affected by bodily gestures, sounds and social signals.

We are seeking people with a range of prior VR experience, from novice to familiar users, to test the developing prototype and give feedback. The testing session will last 15 minutes and will be recorded for internal development use. Data collected will provide valuable user responses and may feed into the further development of the project. Volunteers will be given a £10 Waterstones voucher as a gesture of gratitude for their time and input. Refreshments will be provided. Participants should have a good level of spoken English and must be aged 16+

If you cannot commit to a specific time, we are also running drop-in sessions on Wednesday 20 March from 12-2pm, 3-5pm and 6-8pm. Register your interest here.

In the Realm

Help shape this exciting new virtual reality experience by testing early prototypes and providing feedback.

Volunteers needed to beta test a VR prototype in development, aiming to push at the possibilities of immersive interaction.

We invite people to test the work-in-progress prototype and give individual feedback and contribute to a small group discussion. We are looking for people with a range of prior VR experience, from people who have never experienced virtual reality, to novice users, and to people familiar with a range of VR experiences.

The testing session will last an hour and a quarter and will be recorded for internal use to better understand how people experience it. Data collected will provide valuable user responses and may feed into the further development of the project.

Innovate UK Design Foundation Audiences of the Future grant confirmed

We are pleased to announce that The Realm is officially up and running courtesy of an Innovate UK Design Foundation Audiences of the Future grant. Over the next 6 months the team will develop and test prototypes for collective interactions with shape-shifting digital creatures, building algorithms to perform perfect spontaneous coordination and acrobatics.

We are amongst a great group of projects in receipt of R&D funding to help develop innovative new technologies for future audiences. The full list of recipients and projects can be viewed here.

Watch this space for more info about user-testing events, which will take place in Spring 2019 at Central Saint Martins and arebyte gallery.
